Soil moisture meter EQ2 is a first sensor (so accurate where no service is required) for measurement of soil moisture also used as a tensiometer. The device uses an electronic moisture meter ThetaProbe ML2x, which allows on eliminating problems associated with standard tensiometer structures filled with water (especially eliminating: necessity of periodical water refilling and possibility of tensiometer damaging with environment temperatures below 0°C). In the device EQ2 a sensor’s ML2x measuring electrodes are placed in a special porous material and the whole thing is shielded with an additional filter protecting against pollutants.
Since the sensor works requiring no service it is good for usage in the automatic measuring systems (i.e. the agrometeorological stations).
The sensor EQ2 reaches its highest accuracy in the scope from -100 to –1000 kPa that is why it is especially useful in dry soil examinations. The sensor's EQ2 reaction time is quite long and accurate calibration lasts few days.
In order to make the process of placing in the ground easier
the extension pipes can be attached to the sensor EQ2 just like for the
sensor ThetaProbe
ML2x.
The sensor ML2x is powered with 5...15V voltage and energy consumption of approximately 20 mA. A measurement result is derived from the meter in a form of a constant voltage value from the interval of 0...1V. This signal can be directly measured and registered by two data-loggers (recorders) adjusted to measurement of analogue voltages.
In case of using the sensor in a meteorological station based on
such devices as LB-741 or LB-486 (LAB-EL), the sensors ML2x (in the
number from
1 to 8 pieces) can be attached to them via 8 channel
analogue-to-digital converter LB-711V1.
